My customer had an old family photo as well as a crochet 'monogram' square that she wanted to frame as a gift for her mother. The crochet square was hand-made by the customer's maternal grandmother, who is also shown in the photo (back row, second from the left).

An antique style frame was chosen, along with an off-white top mat to blend with the colour of the crochet square. A dark sepia tone bottom mat was chosen to compliment the sepia tone of the photo as well as to have a dark background behind the crochet square so that the monogram and crochet stitches would stand out. The white bevel cut of the top mat was coloured to match the surface colour of the mat in order to keep the antique feel of the frame design. The crochet square was attached by hand-stitching it to the sepia tone mat.

Tru Vue's conservation clear glass, with 99% UV protection, was used to help keep the photo and crochet square looking their best.

When my customer came to see me early in 2013 for another framing project, she let me know that her mother loved the frame. Sadly, her mother passed away in the fall of 2012. I had the great pleasure of meeting my customer's mother a couple times over the last number of years and knew first hand what a special lady she was.
