The customer brought back a small (~ 9") circle paper cutout as a memento of her trip to China and wanted to frame it.

A narrow red flat wooden frame was stacked inside a deep scoop black wooden frame to complement the red colour of the paper. A white fabric mat was used as the background in order to highlight the intricate cuts in the paper. Due to the delicate condition of the paper cutout, it was mounted using a variation of the direct contact overlay (DCO) method. The paper cutout was sandwiched between the fabric mat background and a piece of acrylite. The black mat and a piece of conservation clear glass were placed on top of the sandwich and a layer of foamcore placed behind. This 'package' was then fitted into the stacked frame.
