This is another military shadow box (size 32”x40”) that I had the honour of making for this particular customer.  He served in all three branches of the military... Army, Navy, and Air Force.  I did a shadow box with memorabilia from his and his father’s army careers last year (see Example #20 in Military Memorabilia Gallery #1).  I recently completed this shadow box, which showcases his naval career, and he has plans for another one for his air force memorabilia.

He brought over a number of items and we sorted through them, choosing which ones he wanted to display.  We came up with a tentative design while he was here and then I fine-tuned it over the next few days.  Once I was satisfied with the design, I e-mailed him a photo of a mockup for his approval.

He served in HMCS Preserver, HMCS Provider, and HMCS Halifax, and had medals and memorabilia from his various tours on these ships (Somalia, Kosovo, and NATO Tour Adriatic Sea).   He also had some cap badges, coins, pins, name tags, crests, etc. to include as well.

A black moulding, with navy blue tones, from Larson-Juhl’s Hudson II collection was chosen for the frame.  The mat was a black suede from Peterboro’s Designer Suede collection, and Tru Vue’s conservation clear glass was chosen for its 99% UV protection.

A huge thanks to my sister, Ellen, who helped me put together this shadow box, especially for all the hand-sewing she did!
